The Omron BP785 is another great product from the well known manufacturer of Automatic Blood Pressure Monitors. This unit is the Series 10 version of the popular Omron HEM-780 and has all of the same functions as its predecessor with a few extra, making it an even better proposition to get accurate measurements.
In order to control your High Blood Pressure you need to keep a constant check to make sure you are taking the correct level of medication. The best way to achieve this is to obtain your own home Blood Pressure Monitor and use it 3 or 4 times a day.
The first thing you notice about the Omron BP785 is that the front panel has now been changed to Black and looks much sexier than the old White styling.
That is probably the most obvious change to the monitor but there are a couple of useful additions hidden inside the unit.
The features it retains from the Omron HEM-780 will guarantee that it is bound to be as well received and at least as accurate.
Comfit Cuff and IntelliSense
These two items are both unique to all Omron models, not just the Omron BP875. The Comfif Cuff is a pre-formed fitting that allows easy placement on the arm without any assistance. It also includes sewn in markings to ensure it is correctly positioned on the arm, to allow the most accurate readings. The other advantage of the Comfit Cuff is that normally with cuffs there are 2 arm sizes available (Standard Adult with a range of 9 to 13 inches and Large Adult with a range of 13 to 17 inches). The Comfit Cuff fits any arm size between 9 and 17 inches.
The IntelliSense technology built into the Omron BP785 has its part to play as it monitors the blood pressure levels and automatically inflates the Comfit Cuff to the optimum level for comfort and measurement accuracy.
The Omron BP785 Display Unit has a sliding front panel with 2 rows of buttons and the User ID selection switch along the bottom, with a large easy to read LCD display above. The main numbers on the screen starting at the top is Systolic (the highest pressure level when the Heart is beating) below that is the Diastolic (the lowest pressure level while the Heart is at rest) and the bottom figure is Pulse Rate.
Alert Symbols include:
- Irregular Heartbeat – this will be displayed if 2 or more irregular heartbeat Rhythms are detected within a measurement.
- Movement Error – will display if there is excessive movement during a measurement period.
- Morning Hypertension – is displayed if the Weekly Morning Average is above 135 for Systolic and / or 85 Diastolic.
- Cuff Wrap Guide – this is displayed if the Cuff is fitted incorrectly.
This Omron BP785 has many safeguards to give accurate statements – so you should be assured of any measurements you make.
- Comfit Cuff – marks to ensure correct fitting
- Cuff Wrap Guide – for correct Cuff fitting assurance
- Movement Error symbol – making sure there is no erroneous glitches
- Dual Sensors – double checks the measurement – Calibration Check indicator will flash if a fault is detected.
The Omron BP785 also incorporates an averaging system called TruRead. In this mode 3 readings are taken simultaneously and the average of these is displayed and recorded.
When the unit is set to TruRead mode and the Comfit Cuff is fitted, the 3 Blood Pressure measurements are carried out automatically (the cuff will deflate and re-inflate between each measurement). The time between readings can be selected as desired between 15 secs, 30 secs, 60 secs, and 120 secs. The default is 60 secs as specified by internationally recognized guidelines.
The Omron BP785 has the ability to store up to 100 measurements for each of the 2 Users. It can be used in Guest Mode, for viewing measurements; however, the Guest Mode readings are not recorded. It can also save up to 8 weeks of Morning Rates and 8 weeks of Evening Rates for each User.
If you suffer from High Blood Pressure then it is really advisable to purchase your own Blood Pressure Monitor like the Omron BP785 to get consistent, accurate results that you can share with your Doctor. Do not rely on the results that you get from infrequent visits to the Surgery. There are many different models to choose from, but the Omron BP785 offers all the best qualities in a Blood Pressure Monitor.
